Elon Musk Advocates for Release of Controversial Activist Tommy Robinson
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, has publicly expressed support for Tommy Robinson, a prominent British right-wing activist currently imprisoned for distributing a documentary that includes defamatory claims regarding a Syrian refugee. Robinson, whose birth name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after asserting in the documentary that a Syrian teenager, who was a victim of an attack at a secondary school in Yorkshire in 2018, had a history of violence against female students.
In a message shared on X, Musk called for Robinson's release, stating, "Free Tommy Robinson!" He also provided a link to the controversial documentary that sparked the legal actions against Robinson. Known for his strong stance against mass immigration and Islam, Robinson has been vocal about issues surrounding the so-called 'grooming gangs' scandal. This scandal involves the systematic abuse of underage girls by groups of men, predominantly of Pakistani descent, in various towns across northern England over the past two decades.
Despite widespread public outcry, successive governments reportedly failed to thoroughly investigate the situation, with several police departments accused of covering up the existence of these criminal networks. In a series of posts, Musk highlighted instances of police mishandling related to the scandal. He cited cases where law enforcement arrested a father attempting to rescue his daughter from a sexual assault situation and another incident where a victim of rape was apprehended without any inquiries made into the alleged assailants.
Musk described the scandal as a form of "state-sponsored evil," emphasizing the severity of the issues at hand. He directed criticism toward Lord Ahmed, the Muslim mayor of Rotherham, who was later found guilty of sexually assaulting two children. Musk also scrutinized Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who served as the head of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) from 2008 to 2013 during a period when these rape gangs operated without facing legal repercussions.
In his posts, Musk pointed out that serious crimes, including rape, necessitate the CPS's approval before police can file charges. He questioned Starmer's role during this time, asserting that he was complicit in allowing these crimes to continue unpunished. Musk's statements included calls for Starmer to resign and face accountability for his perceived involvement in what he termed "the worst mass crime in the history of Britain."
Additionally, Musk shared a poll indicating significant public dissatisfaction with the current government, advocating for the necessity of a new election in the UK. He characterized Nigel Farage's Reform UK party as the only viable option for addressing the nation's challenges. Musk previously met with Farage at the estate of US President-elect Donald Trump in Florida, with media reports suggesting he may have offered substantial financial backing to the party, although Musk has denied such claims.
