Sun 26th Jan, 2025

MINSK - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expressed his belief that the United States lacks the ability to compel Russia to act in accordance with American interests concerning the situation in Ukraine. Speaking to journalists, Lukashenko emphasized the importance of considering Russia's perspective in any discussions about the ongoing conflict.

He stated, "Without acknowledging Russia's position, we cannot move forward." Lukashenko further asserted that the U.S. would be unable to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to align with Washington's expectations.

In his assessment of the prospects for peace in Ukraine, Lukashenko conveyed a cautious outlook, suggesting that the chances of achieving a resolution stand at approximately fifty percent. He remarked, "While I believe that peace can be attained, I view the likelihood as a coin flip."

Lukashenko also indicated that he anticipates forthcoming decisions from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine conflict, noting that these decisions might diverge from traditional U.S. foreign policy approaches.

This perspective adds to the ongoing discourse surrounding the geopolitical dynamics of the region, particularly in light of the complex relationships between Belarus, Russia, and the United States. Lukashenko's comments reflect a broader sentiment in Eastern Europe regarding the challenges of negotiation and the intricate balance of power in the area.
