Trump Seeks Resolution to Ukraine Conflict, Says Bolton

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton has asserted that former President Donald Trump is eager to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, suggesting that Trump may propose a peace agreement favorable to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a recent interview, Bolton, who served under Trump until his dismissal in September 2019, indicated that Trump perceives the Ukraine situation as an obstacle to his political agenda. He noted that Trump has expressed a desire to eliminate the issue from his priorities, framing it as a conflict tied to President Joe Biden rather than his own administration.

Bolton elaborated that Trump's approach to international relations resembles a series of deals, and the former president is likely to pursue negotiations to swiftly conclude the conflict. He emphasized that Trump has even threatened to halt military aid to Ukraine if the country does not engage in peace talks with Russia.

According to Bolton, the potential terms of the peace deal, as hinted during Trump's recent campaigning, may align closely with Kremlin interests, allowing Russia to maintain territorial gains in Ukraine while establishing a ceasefire and preventing NATO membership for Ukraine.

Bolton expressed concerns that Putin views Trump as someone easily influenced, suggesting that the Russian leader might take advantage of Trump's belief that personal relationships with foreign leaders dictate U.S. foreign policy. Recently, Putin characterized Trump as trustworthy and recalled their previously pragmatic interactions during Trump's presidency.

Furthermore, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is open to dialogue with Trump, indicating Moscow's anticipation of positive signals from the new U.S. administration.
