Belarus Plans to Include EU and NATO Observers in Upcoming Military Exercises

Belarus has announced its intention to conduct a significant joint military exercise with Russia, named West-2025, and is considering the invitation of observers from selected EU and NATO nations. This information was disclosed by the head of the Department of International Military Cooperation within the Belarusian Ministry of Defense.

According to officials, the West-2025 drills are expected to involve over 13,000 military personnel. The Belarusian Ministry of Defense has already notified all participating states of the Vienna Document regarding the upcoming exercise, ensuring transparency among military partners.

In outlining the plans, the defense official commented on the development of the invitation list for the exercise, emphasizing a positive inclination towards certain EU member states and specific NATO countries. This decision reflects Belarus's strategy to foster dialogue and cooperation, even amidst a complex geopolitical landscape.

Additionally, the Ministry of Defense highlighted other military activities scheduled for this year, including the Cooperation, Search, and Echelon drills under the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). There are also suggestions that representatives from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization may be invited to observe these exercises.

Beyond military drills, the MILEX arms and military equipment exhibition is in the planning stages, generating considerable interest from various foreign nations. The Ministry expressed optimism about establishing productive partnerships and securing beneficial agreements during this event.
