Health offices in Germany reported 10,976 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. In addition, 344 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours. This is according to figures from Tuesday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard as of 05:10. Subsequent changes or additions by the RKI are possible. A week ago Tuesday, the RKI had recorded 9609 new infections and 297 new deaths within one day.

The number of new infections per 100,000 population reported within seven days was 167.6 nationwide Tuesday morning, according to the RKI. The previous day, the RKI gave that seven-day incidence as 169.3; a week ago, it was 162.4. "After a temporary decline in the number of cases over Easter, the sharp increase in the number of cases initially continued, but since mid-April the increase has slowed somewhat," the RKI wrote in its situation report Monday evening.

Almost 82,000 deceased
The RKI counted 3,310,301 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the pandemic began. The actual total is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI gave the number of people who recovered as about 2,931,400. The total number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 81,968.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.01 (previous day: 1.08), according to the RKI situation report from Monday evening. This means that 100 infected people infect 101 other people. The R-value represents the infection incidence 8 to 16 days ago. If the R-value is below 1 for a longer period of time, the number of infections is decreasing; if it is continuously above 1, the number of cases is increasing.
