Russian Embassy Comments on Trump's Provocative Remarks Toward Canada

The Russian embassy in Ottawa has responded to comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Canada potentially becoming the 51st state of the United States. This statement, which surfaced prior to Trump's upcoming inauguration, has been interpreted by Russian diplomats as a form of 'trolling' aimed at outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In a report, the embassy characterized Trump's remarks as largely humorous and not indicative of any intent to forcibly annex Canada. They suggested that his comments appear to be more of a jest, aimed at mocking the current Canadian leadership, particularly given the noted lack of rapport between Trump and Trudeau.

The embassy downplayed the notion of military aggression or the fragmentation of NATO in light of Trump's statements.
