Russian Forces Regain Control of Nikolayevo-Darino Village

The Russian military announced that it has successfully regained control of the village of Nikolayevo-Darino, located in the Kursk region, which had previously been captured by Ukrainian forces during a cross-border operation last year.

This development follows an unexpected incursion by Ukraine in early August, which caught Moscow by surprise. Since then, Russian troops have been systematically reclaiming lost territory, effectively halting Ukraine's advance in the area. Reinforcements, including thousands of soldiers from North Korea, have bolstered Russian efforts in the southwestern region.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that units from the 'North' military group played a significant role in liberating Nikolayevo-Darino. This small village, with a population of under 150, is situated right on the border between Russia and Ukraine.

Since the onset of the conflict and Ukraine's incursion, thousands of residents in the Kursk region have been evacuated, while many others remain in areas controlled by Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian officials have stated that they are facilitating safe passage for Russian citizens in the regions they hold.

In November, a source from the Ukrainian army indicated that Kiev maintains control over approximately 800 square kilometers (around 300 square miles) of the Russian border area, a decrease from earlier claims of nearly 1,400 square kilometers.
