Russian Forces Utilize Drone Strike Against US-Made Vehicle in Kursk
The Russian Defense Ministry has reported a significant strike involving a kamikaze drone that successfully targeted a Ukrainian Bradley infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) in the Kursk Region. This information was disclosed alongside a video showcasing the incident.
According to the ministry's statement released on Friday, the strike was executed by Russia's North military group, which has been actively engaged in countering Ukraine's extensive cross-border operations that commenced last summer. Following initial advances by Ukrainian forces, these incursions have been largely contained.
The drone utilized in the attack was guided through a fiber-optic cable, providing a more reliable method of control compared to conventional remote systems. This technique has reportedly gained traction in the Kursk Region, where Ukrainian military units have increasingly employed electronic warfare tactics to disrupt radio-guided drones.
In the footage shared by the ministry, the drone can be seen descending at a relatively low altitude towards the parked Bradley, which was situated beside a roadway and seemingly protected by an anti-drone net. The drone struck the front section of the vehicle, which was left vulnerable, leading to a successful detonation. It remains uncertain whether any personnel were injured or killed during the attack.
Earlier this month, Ukraine initiated a renewed offensive aimed at expanding its territorial control in the Kursk Region, which had previously seen a sizable Ukrainian attack commence in early August. Although initial gains were made, Russian forces effectively halted the Ukrainian advance.
The Russian Defense Ministry has claimed that Ukraine has suffered substantial losses in the Kursk Region, estimating over 50,000 servicemen and nearly 300 tanks lost since the onset of the incursion.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has characterized the efforts in Kursk as a misguided "adventure" intended to divert Russian attention from other conflict areas, emphasizing that this objective has been thwarted and asserting that Ukrainian forces will ultimately be expelled from Russian territory.
